Patricia Schroeder

From 1972 to 1996, Democrat Patricia Scott Schroeder
represented the First Congressional District of Colorado. A graduate
of the University of Minnesota and Harvard Law School, she was
dean of the Colorado Congressional delegation for many years
and served as Democratic Whip in 1978. At the forefront of the
Democratic
Party’s progressive movement, she was a leader on critical
issues of foreign and military policy, arms control and disarmament,
women’s economic equity, educational opportunity, and civil
and constitutional rights and supported pro-choice legislation,
the Family and Medical Leave Act, and the Child Abuse and Protection
Act. She served on the House Armed Services Committee, the House
Judiciary Committee, the House Post Office and Civil Services Committee,
and the House Select Committee on Children, Youth, and Families.
For 12 years she also co-chaired the Congressional Women’s
Caucus. Schroeder is currently president and chief executive
officer of the Association of American Publishers. |
