Join the Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame as we congratulate
the following inductees on their recent achievements!

Kristina M. Johnson, PhD (2014) was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in May 2015. She is widely recognized as a pioneer in optoelectronic processing, 3D imaging, and color management systems. She holds a patent for her color polarizer technology that has made significant innovations to the entertainment and electronics industries. Her work has formed the basis for 3D films and rear projection systems for televisions. However, it has also benefited the health industry in digital mammograms and faster screening of pap smears for cervical cancer.


Kristi Anseth Receives 2015 Bonfils-Stanton Award in Science and Medicine Kristi Anseth, PhD (2012) was presented the Bonfils-Stanton Award in Science and Medicine at a luncheon at the Hyatt’s Pinnacle Club. Dr. Anseth is a chemical engineer by training who designs biomaterials on which to grow living tissue that hold promise for replacing diseased or damaged body parts. She is an endowed chair, distinguished professor and associate professor of surgery at the University of Colorado, has written over 290 research articles and is on the editorial board of several scientific journals.


Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center Renamed to Pat Schroeder Visitor Center Former U.S. Representative Pat Schroeder (1985) had the visitor center in Commerce City renamed after her. In 1991, she introduced a bill reclaiming the land formerly used by the army to make chemical weapons and designating it to be used as a wildlife preserve after remediation and cleanup.


 

Arlene Hirschfeld honored with Metro Volunteers Lifetime Achievement Award Arlene Hirschfeld (2006) was presented the Lifetime Achievement Award from Metro Volunteers in a ceremony held at the Denver Art Museum April 28, 2015. Arlene has been a long-time supporter of the Women’s Foundation of Colorado. She currently serves on the boards of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation, Denver Art Museum, and the Mizel Museum.

 


Emily Warner Field Dedication Granby Emily Howell Warner (2002) is America’s first female commercial airline pilot and captain. She has won multiple aviation awards and her uniform hangs in the Smithsonian Institution’s Air and Space Museum. The historic renaming of the Emily Warner Field at the Granby/Grand County airport at 1023 County Road 610 in Granby, CO will occur Saturday, July 11 at 10 a.m. in conjunction with a fly-in breakfast. Her name will be enshrined into the newly created Pioneers Wall of Fame, located inside the former Rocky Mountain Airways Airline terminal.


Penny Rafferty Hamilton Conferred with Alumni Achievement Award The University of Nebraska Alumni Association recognized Penny Rafferty Hamilton, PhD (2014) and her husband William Alexander Hamilton for achieving success in their careers and communities by bestowing them with the Alumni Achievement Award in a ceremony May 7, 2015. Hamilton is a private pilot and aviation educator. She co-holds a world aviation record with her husband. She is the director of the Teaching Women to Fly Research Project, which is dedicated to bringing more women into aviation, and has written two books on flight instruction directed at women.
