Maguire brought a vibrant culture of inclusion to Lockheed, increasing the number of women promoted into leadership and executive positions and adding substantially to the number of women in the SSC workforce. She was an executive sponsor for the corporate-wide Women’s Leadership Forum and the key leader of Lockheed’s LGBT Leadership Forum. To develop the next generation of women leaders in the sciences, Maguire has been a tireless mentor, role model, and supporter of STEM education for girls and women. In 2010, Maguire became the first and only female recipient of the prestigious international Von Karman Wings Award from Cal Tech’s Aerospace Historical Society. Maguire is one of few women named as a fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). She was on the advisory council for the Denver School of Science and Technology and led financing efforts for the school, fostered SSC’s partnership with the Society of Women Engineers, and guided their sponsorship of the Colorado Girls Exploring STEM Event.
In retirement, Maguire serves on the boards for both Draper Laboratory (U.S. government work) and Freescale Semiconductor Company (microelectronics for networks, autos, and communications), and sits on the UCLA Engineering School Dean’s Advisory Council as well as the board of visitors for the UCLA School of Management.
